Một số bệnh nhân theo đuổi các phương pháp chữa bệnh chưa được chứng thực như thụt tháo đại tràng bằng cà phê, thực dưỡng và chế độ ăn kiềm... với hy vọng rằng sẽ chữa khỏi được ung thư và một số bệnh mãn tính khác. Chưa có bằng chứng khoa học nào chứng minh các phương pháp trên có khả năng chữa bệnh trên con người. Hơn nữa, biến chứng của một số phương pháp có thể nặng nề và có thể gây ra tình trạng suy dinh dưỡng và suy kiệt cho bệnh nhân, đặc biệt là bệnh nhân ung thư. Nhằm hạn chế việc tự ý theo đuổi những phương pháp chưa được thực chứng, các bác sĩ lâm sàng nên dành thời gian quan tâm và giải thích rõ ràng về tình trạng bệnh, phác đồ điều trị, chế độ dinh dưỡng và luyện tập thể dục cho bệnh nhân và người nhà của họ, đồng thời tạo mối quan hệ tốt với bệnh nhân.
Some patients use unproven treatment methods such as coffee enemas, macrobiotics and alkaline diets... in the hope of curing cancer and some other chronic diseases. There is no scientific evidence to prove that the above methods have the ability to cure diseases in humans. Furthermore, complications of some methods can be severe and can cause malnutrition and exhaustion in patients, especially cancer patients. In order to limit the arbitrarily pursuing unproven methods, clinicians should take the time to pay attention and clearly explain the disease condition, treatment regimen, nutrition and exercise regimen, educate patients and their families, and create good relationships with patients.
